The ABC’s of Homeschooling

August 25, 2023

As we begin again this year, let’s review our ABCs…

The ABCs of Homeschooling

It’s apple seed stars and abacus beads,

It’s afternoons in the woods

Booklists, baskets and bugs,

Baby snuggles in between

Connecting and correcting,

Crafting cards and climbing trees

Deep discussions and dirt in your nails,

Daddy’s home early, let’s dance

Equipping and evolving,

Everything all at once

Forest school and field trips,

Foraging dewberries in the fields

Games and going and coming,

And staying home

Handcrafts and holding the cat,

History timelines that stretch across the room

Identifying plants,

Identifying intuition

Just resting when we need a break

Kindling the sparks of imagination,

Kisses and kites and kids being kids

Listening and listing,

Lots of LEGOs, C.S. Lewis & Lewis Carrol

Morning math and midday snuggles,

Making messes, making meals

No walls, no rules,

Nobody to tell us what to do

Oops! We forgot to change out of our pajamas today,

Oh well

Popcorn & popsicles, portals to a wider world,

Playing more and praying more

Quiet reading and loud reading,

Quitting curriculum that isn’t serving

Read a-louds and recitations,

Writing essays and resting well

Sleeping in and starting slow,

Sunflower seed spirals and sculpting clay

Tying knots and tending soil,

Telling stories, telling time

Unit studies and uncovering mysteries,

Under the table giggles

Virtual tours and in-person tours to the

Very best places

Wondering and wandering,

Weeding the beds and whittling sticks,

Examining tiny larvae in your microscope,

Exalting excellence

Your home is filled with life,

Your people and your love

Zeal in the ongoing pursuit of truth, goodness and beauty
