If you’re looking for a fun activity to spice up your night hikes, grab the kids and make these simple lanterns.
Supplies:
- A Glass Jar
- Aluminum Wire
- Wire Cutters
- Clear Contact Paper
- Leaves, Flowers, Grass, etc.
- Flameless Candles
Directions:
1. Cut your contact paper the width of the jar and long enough to wrap around once, meeting where you started. Be careful not to overlap the contact paper.
2. Have your kids collect flat items from nature. Once they’re done, peel the contact paper backing off, exposing the sticky side. Let the kids arrange their collections onto the sticky paper. Be careful not to cover too much of the contact paper so you still have enough to stick to your jar.
3. Carefully help wrap the contact paper around the jar. Press tightly to secure it.
4. Using the aluminum wire, wrap the wire tightly around the lip of the jar a few times. Then slide it up through one of the wrapped wires and across the top to make a handle. Secure the handle by sliding the end down through the other side and twisting it several times.
5. Drop a candle in and watch the magic!
That’s it! Your beautiful night lantern is complete and ready to go! Super simple and fun activity to get you out of the house and into nature. Grab some friends like we did and head out on a night hike to enjoy the magic.
